Super Tiger wrote: Cas Not sure the rpm's at 56mph ill check this weekend. ill be at tower park just missed your guys trip maybe next one! i really dont think anything is done to the motor. i was told the original motor blown up so they put another 454 that they had just rebuilt. it has stock manifold holly carb but do have panther jet's valve covers and water logs lol. i like panther a lot even tho havent really been around any jet boats besides mine. but its nice tinkering around with it made some fins seem to help just used pictures, thing about them is they like to bend in a really sharp turn. i really like the idea of this panthervator conversion but i want a spare exit housing and still want to try to make the panther to berkley but hard to find. so ill hold off for now very tempting tho! rooster would be nice but also would like to lose it when tubing. how much u think it might cost for this mod? Panthers are good pumps, they just aren't for high horsepower and most seem to limit out at around 70 give or take a couple of miles per hour. As soon as you get the numbers for a base line on the pump, it'll give a good indication on where to start. Ideally, you want to get the speed of the boat at different rpms starting at about 3000. 3000 3500 4000 4500 5000, hopefully at 56 mph, it's not getting to 5000 If it's turning any more than about 4500 at 56 mph, pump work is probably going to be needed. The other thing is the hull, more specifically, if there is hook in the bottom. Since it's the Super Tiger, more than likely it has about 3/16 or so of hook which isn't all that bad at the speeds it will get to. The way to check is to put about a 4' straight edge on the bottom of the boat from the transom forward between the first and second lifting strake.

Well really unsure if my tack is reading right but mph seems right from riding along other boaters going 50, i was going about the same not more then 1mph off. but this is what i got so far 2600rpm=40mph 2800=45 3000=50 3200=55/56 it does not go over 3200rpm just like it has a rev limiter on it but i have had it go to about 5000+ rpm reving it in the driveway really unsure whats going on any ideas? also having a problem with starter getting stuck on its a problem thats intermittent i have the starter with solenoid on it and another ford solenoid bolted to the motor. have had the starter tested, replaced the ford solenoid and ignition switch.

Sounds like your Tach may be off. Do you have another one you can try? you dont have to mount it in the dash. The reason I say this is, at least from my experience, Panthers cruise RPM seems to be in the 3000 to 3500 rpm range, and that usually equals 35 to 40 mph give or take a couple. if your rpm's and speed are correct. you would need another 150hp to get over 4000rpm's. when your motor stops climbing in rpm's, the pump is absorbing all the HP/Torque that your motor is making at that rpm. You would need to make more HP to spin the pump faster. or a little different pitch on your impeller. is this pump sleeved? (aluminum/bronze sleeve around the impeller) if you look through the bottom of the pump, at the inlet, you can see a goldish color around the outside of the impeller. Stock was just the aluminum case.

SteveMac is right, it sounds like you tach is messed up. Check to see if there is a switch on the back of the tach that has settings of 2,3,4 or 4,6,8 and make sure the switch is set on 4 or 8. The numbers you get on a stock pump should be more like this- 2600 - the boat may not get on plane 3000 - 30-32 mph 3500 - 38 - 42 4000 - 46 - 50 4500 - 55 - 60 5000 - 60 - 65 those are very rough numbers but will be in the ball park. The best way to get the numbers is to have a GPS and an accurate tach.
