Transom cover plates, WTB

Transom cover plates, WTB

Postby motorhead » July 20th, 2010, 10:20 pm

Having water reversion problems, so I'm going back to O/T pipes behind the logs. I need a set of the cover plates for the holes in the transom now. Anybody?

I thought I had a set around here but I seem to remember giving them to Jethro a couple a three years ago to try and polish up.

Are you still looking for cover plates??? I have a set. Make an offer. I will post pics if needed.

I could powder coat them, if desired. These might be the ones Cas thought he owned?????

Wish I'd have got Fleet's post sooner. Thanks for the offer Tim, but I hadn't got any hits here for a couple months, so I bought 10 bucks worth of aluminum round stock and made my own. I just need to drill and install studs and these will fit perfectly in all the existing holes and attach just like the 3 1/2' tips I was running. They might not be as elegant as the plates I can get from Rex Marine, but they didn't cost $95 either. And they will seal up great.

I would almost wager that those are as high or higher quality than the purchased ones. Also you can easily polish those up to compare with the ones that cost a c-note, and they'll still be more awesome because you made them yourself.

Thanks for the flowers. :)
I am pretty happy with how they came out, especially me being an electrician and only having limited skills on the lathe.

Well then you should have known to make them out of copper because it has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than aluminum, and you don't want them working themselves loose like a wire lug would ;)

haha yeah... I had a service call one time where I drove an hour and a half there and an hour and a half back 100 miles each way and spent 15 minutes tightening up some lugs on an underground wire run that were having a sketchy connection issue. The company charged per mile, plus they charged the amount of time I spent working and driving, so they got charged a good 3.5 hours of service call time plus mileage, and I bet that service call was up around $400 dollars and all I did was tighten the three phase wires lugs, and the ground lug, and everything worked fine.
