Thanks Jim, I ordered another set of the flappers a couple of weeks ago  I had been cutting them out of a roll of rubber I had laying around (old tool box top I think) but I had to replace them about once a month. Are their better made ones available? like black silicon ones or something?

I quit replacing mine after 3 sets and 3 outings they just burn off anyways. I haven't used them for over 5 years now and never had any trouble with water back flow in the motor.

I ran without them for quite awhile on the Tahiti until one day at Berryessa. A wave must've hit the transom just right and the water went in the tip, over the riser and into the log. When we went to leave, it wouldn't start and the starter was laboring. Turned out 2 cylinders were filled with water but luckily nothing bad happened to the engine.
I know of a couple of people that have run logs without risers that never had any issues at all. I'm thinking if any water got it the pipes, it could flow right back out without the riser in the way to hold it from exiting.

Thanks Guys ! Steve, it only takes one time to ruin your day with water in the exhaust. Especially if you have someone else driving your boat and they are not conscious of the wake that may hit your transom on deceleration. (like maybe the wife) I sell and recommend the salsbury flappers. They fit over the outside of the exhaust bell and the rubber hinge of the flap is not in the exhaust track. They last forever almost. Have em on my for for 16 years, no problems. jim :D

Jim I've never tried those I've always tried the type that mount inside the pipe with 2 screws and a plate. But I 'd like to try the other type do you have them for 4" pipe like these

Kris, Sure they will fit. They go over the outside with a stainless clamp. They run 28.00 a pair, maybe a little more, I'll have to check. A little more cost up front but they last for years. jim

I have a ?? for you Jim I im now running the through the transom bassetts headers and I have the flapers inside a 4" by 6" long stanless tube at the begaining of my tips inline .I cant stand the sound of the flappers inside there ,it sounds like a rod knocking sound .I was thinking of using that style too ,would those be good enough instead of what I now have thanks scott

Scott, Yea they will work fine... I asume that you have 4 " exhaust tips....Are they straight cut or angle cut? These don't work on the angle cut exhaust tips. Some exhaust tips have rubber lined internal flappers that don't rattle all of the time. Jim

Ya know, Shasta Lake sure sounds like a great place to play with all these Panther Pieces, prolly be enough boats to run a performance test against. (who said we were racing? :drive: ) always a good way to see if your improving or not!

I'll be at Shasta 78_Tahiti so we can do a side by side runs my pump has zero mods.
All my mods are in the motor :cool1:

Let's get to work mad pump scientist!! By the way, you ever think about what you'd charge to help someone make their pump more like yours??? "Hint Hint!!"

I have definatly been thinking about it. There are a lot more Panther Pumps still out running around then I ever thought there was. Which I think is a good thing. I still have a little more playing around with mine yet before I'd call it done. But it sure is a lot different then the way Panther sends them out. I would really like to see one of the modified Panthers Cas was talkin about, with a Place style diverter on it. So if anyone has one out there, I would love to talk to you.

There are definitely a lot more Panthers out there than people realize. I'm guessing there's at least 4 or 5 more right here on this message board ;)

The spec sheet shows it at 116 mm ID which is about 4.5 in
