Once you register, it could take a couple of hours to be confirmed before you are able to fully participate. Sorry for that inconvenience but the confirmation process really helps keeping the spammers at bay.

I've had a couple of people bring up that requiring membership and logging in to read the content is kind of a pain. I apologize for that but the reason is just in the past 3 weeks, I've had to been a few hundred IP addresses from other countries that are known for spam and other not so pleasant things. In order to try and protect the members and their privacy, I felt it best to do the above. I hope the guests that are thinking about joining will do so to be able to read all the content and participate in some of the discussion.

If you need help registering, you can send an email to laidbackboater@yahoo.com. If you've registered and are awaiting activation, check for it sometime before 9am or after 6pm Pacific time.

I also hope that everyone understands the reasoning and hopefully sometime in the future when these "attacks" slow down, it'll get opened up again for all to read.

Personally I appreciate the fact that it is set up this way. I have seen what happens to some boards when the Spammers get into it. Not Pretty. Keep up the good work Cas.
If the Jacksonville Jaguars are known as the 'Jags' and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are known as the 'Bucs', what does that make the Tennessee Titans?.

Almost a week has gone by without any of the webcrawlers, bots or spiders from Russia, China or Libya stopping in to gather information. I'm guessing there has been somewhere in the neighborhood of 700 IP addresses banned in the past 6 or 8 weeks. Just so you all know, webcrawlers, bots and spiders go around the internet collecting information for search engines. I'm sure most of you have seen Google bots, msn bots, majestic, yahoo, lycos and a couple of others that are "approved" to peruse the forums for their mostly legitimate search engines although the jury is still out on msn.
In any case, these webcrawlers are computer driven looking for specific keywords to include into their search engines. The ones from some of these countries are doing so to collect personal information for not so legitimate use. In essence, the security that is in place to prevent the actual post spamming does not work to prevent these webcrawlers from getting information that people don't want to get out there.
Also, if you don't want a crawler to get personal information from you.....phone number, cell number, physical address, email address, vehicle license number, trailer license number, hull registration numbers, etc, don't post it or have the info in a picture.

general info and tip of the day are now concluded.

When I used to do Internet Radio It got to where anything "Ripe" network was simply banned. sucked as I had listeners world wide...
to me the Ripe Network has become the Internet provider equivalent of "KAZAA". if you get that reference Bravo to you....

I'm not too familiar with Kazaa other than my kids used to download music from there. I say used to because when my computer went down a few years ago, the techie that tried to get it back up and running told me that it was one of the places that was like a cesspool for viruses like My Space and a couple of others.
