K so I know a while back you guys told me panthers don't run pump oil. When I ran into steve and chris at shasta they pointed out a silver hex head handle that looked like a type of measurement handle for fluids of some sort on my pump housing. It's right above the drive connection from motor to pump. Here's my deal. last time I was out, I noticed a shake that came when I shifted the bucket from forward to reverse and back, it was only noticeable at idle, and It felt like it was a conection somewhere that was loose. Or maybe a gear not being properly lubricated? I'm unsure. I'm nervous now I'ma fry this pump or something before I even finish the season! I did grease the zirk that you can reach through the pump exit grate. Can you guys give me a run down and some pics on what I need to make sure is greased and filled in regards to the pump.

C&J its always a good idea to check the gear oil in the pump before any outing. It only holds about 4 ounces. That hex nut is a dipstick. The Panther manuel recomends changing it at least once a season, unless it becomes milky or very thick. You can change it by using a turkey baster and a little piece of hose, or a hand held vacuum pump. Be sure and grease the u-joints as well, this is usually the first area of trouble. If you have any other questions ask away. I have quite a bit of experience with these pumps, as do a few other members here as well.

and don't forget about to grease the zerk fitting at the rear of the stator housing. To find it, open the bucket and look inside, it's dead center of the stator and can be hard to see. That needs to be greased about every 20 to 25 hrs. Did I ever send you the Panther Manual? If not, send me your email address, you too, wetnwild.

Welcome 78 Manta Ray! I am always interested in sources for Panthers, as well as parts that will work as well in them. I'll send you an e-mail. Oh did I mention we really love boat pictures of members. Be it in process, apart, or all done!
