Great deal on BBF headers 2 sets

without getting into yer business thats kind of why I mentioned it, but also I dont think you pay for bandwidth? just a flat fee for hosting correct?
going back to my refresh question. on an old site I was associated with we were getting killed with bandwidth and it was directly linked to refresh and refresh rates....so we went flat fee (more expensive at first but evened out without being dinged for over usage fee's).

Interesting side note on cookies, the new firefox 4 has a handy new feature built in for those less internet savvy. 1 simple setting change and the browser tells sites to NOT track it thus not dropping any cookies... Ive been running it since yesterday, and am going to run 2 scans to night to see if it is in fact worth my recommendation....
I dont frequent many sites lately and have been being bombarded with tracking cookies (I will find out the source eventually).
Simplifying software to be more user friendly usually means something else is being sacrificed. like system resources (windows vista / Windows 7).... or in the case of Norton SYmantec it simply does not work properly out of the box and you need Mad skills to make it perform properly... thats why Im running this FF version as a test only and can revert.
but I digress.

back to header talk...

We don't pay for bandwidth per se but there is a maximum that can be used included in the flat fee. What really uses it up on this site is when pictures are hosted here instead of on a picture hosting site. It's set to drop the oldest pictures first to clear room for new pics.

I also use FF so it'll be interesting to hear what your findings are. On another side note, I have disallowed all but 6 out of about 50 Bots which has cut down on those numbers big time. I couldn't see the point in allowing Bots from many foreign search engines and others that may mis-categorize to do their thing here.

sounds like yer on top of it. Yeah 3rd party image hosting is a huge space saver... and I recommend it to everyone, it also eliminates any possibility of a bug coming form someones image to your site. the 3rd party site takes care of any bug killing.

so Far the new FF took a minute to get used to.
its laid out a bit different more modern looking. so they re-tooled its general look.
and since my last post I ran one quick scan with just the super anti spyware free edition (good piece of freeware BTW) and it only found 6 bugs today that's since I fired it up this morning.... I was averaging about 60+ bugs a day with the old settings on FF. so it may be helping. Ive also not noticed any system hogging and I run multiple instances and multiple windows open at a time, plus IM downloading at the same time...

I also run a program called PeerBlock. It blocks http connections to your computer that are from sites that are on a list. You choose what lists you want to have on it, and it will block them. It is a bit of a pain at first when you want to use your banking or whatever and it blocks the connection, and you have to tell it to add that ip to the safe list, but eventually it gets straightened out and it blocks only the stuff that you don't know about. I would bet mine blocks about 300-1000 connections a day :o I had no idea that there was that much traffic on my computer not just from the sites I visit, but adds on those sites try to connect and track stuff and it is just crazy how much stuff it blocks.

Also if you've been known to torrent, it will keep the Anti-Peer-to-Peer groups like RIAA from monitoring your traffic and notifying your Internet provider if they see something that might be considered illegal. They will occasionally report people that don't do anything like that as well accidentally, but if you get reported enough times, some providers will drop you. I like knowing that I'm in control of what incoming connections my computer accepts.
...that's why we don't have nice things...

a fellow torrenter = NICE. lemme know if ya ever wanna swap invites sometime... I have a few here and there.... hell I usually give em away as I earn more then I can ever use.

and that is a great piece of software. and yes another thing that out of the box will almost work to well for the average Net user...
I had to stop using it when I made the jump from XP to Vista as there was at that time no peer guardian or peerblock support. I lived among torrents, underground hubs and running a pirate Radio station 24/7 it did very well to keep me away from C and D's and lawyers. SOny for example is NOTORIOUS.

Ive sinced abandoned it entirely. since I only dabble on a few of the Higher end sites.... IE: the noid and the Bay in this day and age is almost like buying dope from an undercover cop. Its all justa big set up.

I also used to flash my routers with dd-wrt firmware.
Now just a basic firewalled router and run Spyware doctor with intelliguard in the background.. its a nice piece of software and very low resource usage.(but you have to pay for it, less you know where to grab it)
I also use to run Black Ice but it to go so crazy with shutting things down it was defeating its own purpose... Now I run a simple AVG free edition Anti virus, and run an autoscan nightly with super anti spyware....( I run that as its just a quick scan that doesnt take to long) and my latest results = NO BUGs what so ever in the past few hours so the newest FF must be working correctly... the less you dabble the less its needed. and the best protection for your internet connection is a pair of wire cutters...
