i have been seeing those two olds motors for a while now.maybe if i win big at the casino tonight i will pull the trigger and buy one.i have been wanting to build a one with some horsepower, not too much, maybe in the 400hp range, while still keeping my basically stock little 8:1 motor for backup.i know,i know, dont waste your time with a "blowsmobile",but i have taken quite an interest in them and reading all i can about them so i think it would be fun to see if i can apply any of the info i have accumulated.

I've liked the Olds engines since I had the 455 in my first boat. It's an excellent engine, it just needs a lot more attention to detail when building it for more horsepower. I've said it a few times before but that Olds I had ran great until I sold it after 11 years. I left it pretty much stock except for the intake and carb......maxed out about 4600 - 4700 rpms probably 65ish mph.

I agree with Cas! I think the block & head drain prep is a huge factor in prepping an olds for a JetBoat. Give it some intake & carb, and a cam for torque, and they are a great engine! The 455 is like 65 pounds lighter then a cast iron BBC or BBF! Just use the available torque, high revs will kill an Old pretty quickly! :hop1:
