Mike,
Not likely!

Ok, the person has nothing so it can either be 3 or 4 point. He found a 3 pt for $100.00 including the driveline but it's down in Hayward. The person that's looking is named Eric, he's here in Sonoma and may show up here to give more info.
He picked up a Tahiti to rebuild that is basically a shell. He also has a v-drive that will probably be for sale along with a 21' Tahiti he's had for a few years.

that would be great Kris! If Eric comes on, he'll see this but I'll also try and give him a call.
Oh yea, he's also in need of a couple of exhaust risers.

OK, I am not usually one to say anything about jet VS V-Drive but if he has one of each. Even if they both need work and assembly, why pick the Jet? A V-Drive is so much easier on the engine and fuel. The biggest disadvantage to V-Drive is the drivetrain takes up room in a small boat.

OK, I am off my soap-box.

Welcome hpranch!
After speaking with Scott (454Blueboat) last night, it sounds like he can pretty much set you up with everything you need for cheap.

Rod,
I can't speak for anyone else but I know I felt a whole lot more comfortable with redoing jets than I did when I had that v-drive a few years ago. I'm sure it was just laziness and lack of cash on my part but I ran out of enthusiasm to rebuild the v-drive in a short time.

I was born with v- drives . my dad and I built ours. then road in a jet , The take off is to die for and when you go up the river like at CFW you dont have to worry if you just happen by a small chance to bump a rock it not that big or a deal. when you need to rebuild a jet its a ton cheeper to do so, and the ride is smoother. And more playfull. thats my 2 cents on that LOL but you will never be able to steer great like a v-drive . and the most best part of a v-drive is when you let off on the gas its like having brakes. and of the top speed will always be more

Rebuilding the v-drive unit really isn't a big deal. I did mine 3 years ago and it cost me $75 for bearings and seals and most of what I replaced didn't need to be replaced. I had one seal that started leaking and figured while I was there I would do every thing. I understand the Launch of a jet, as I have had one also, a 73 tahiti, orange and silver. But I like the economy of the prop. For most people the jet is much easier to drive and is much more family oriented. My boat, because it is 19 foot helps but it is still crowded inside in comparison to most of the jets of shorter lengths. And yes Scott, dinging a prop is always something you have to consider, you have to be carefull and stay away from those areas or have a wife willing to sit on the bow while traveling. In my situation, because I have a Powerglide Trans it makes up for some of the disadvantages of a v-drive but not the room thing.
When it comes down to it, all that matters is, do you have fun driving your boat.
