1965 VW BEETLEON ON 1970 CHASSIS

1965 VW BEETLEON ON 1970 CHASSIS

Postby FBT » October 11th, 2011, 4:15 pm

Guys I have a neat little VW Beetle I need to sell.
It is a '65 Body on a '70 chassis, it is titled as a '70, no smog, tags are about 50 bucks a year.
The car is tight, no rattles. It is the best of both worlds, the early body and the late suspension with 12v and all that goes with it.
I bought it several years ago, the fellow that built it put all new urethane bushings in the chassis, the front beam has an adjuster and it is lowered a touch in the front. It has a Ghia freeway flyer trans, a new clutch and a new Scat shifter with reverse lockout.
The engine is a 1776.
The crank is a 69mm and is counterweighted, the rods were reworked, and I put a fresh top end on it that has less than 1k miles on it.
That consists of new 90.5 mm barrels, new pistons and rings, new CB 044 (big ports & valves) heads with SS valves, and new twin Solex 35mm Single throat carbs, dialed in by Aircooled.net. They have been tuned with a Synchrometer.
The engine also has a new starter, new genny, new regulator, an new Holley electric fuel pump w/regulator, and all the tins are powder coated red, as are the wheels, which have Porsche hub caps and trim rings.
I put an $1300 ceramic coated header, complete with new heater boxes, with a dynapack hushpower muffler on it.
The interior is fresh as well. The dash has never been cut. The radio delete plate is in place, I installed a CD deck in the glove box in a custom mount.
It has a new windshield, and pop-out style back windows.
There is no rust in the floors, or anywhere else to my knowledge.
There is a dent, about the size of a softball, in the right rear fender. I am knocking the price down to reflect that.

The car runs like a clock, is fun as heck to drive, and gets thumbs up and smiles everywhere it goes. The guy I bought it from built it up, I just freshened the engine to get a little more HP out of it. It makes tons of low end torque and will surprise you if your experience with VW's is limited to stock 1600's or smaller.
I built it planning to keep it forever, but I don't drive it because I have my sons old Tacoma which is more comfortable for my bad back.
I have about 7k in this car, I paid 5200 for it then spent the $$$ on the engine.
I know I am gonna take a bath in it, but it just needs to go to a good home.
Would be a great first car for a youngster, or a fun ride for the weekends or even a daily commuter, as it goes down the freeway at 65 no problem.

I am asking $4250. I need it to go. The $ from this will go a long way towards getting the Anthony on the water next summer.
Please shoot me a pm if interested, or psdturbodiesel@hotmail.com

If you are reading this you might be into aircooled stuff, and if so in my shop there is a 1971 KARMANN GHIA CONVERTIBLE that belongs to my Godfather, he is the original owner!! The car is all there, but needs a full resto. It does not run. He is asking $3250, and I will discourage the neck out of him taking less than $3000 for it, these cars are rare as heck and a blast to drive when built right! I remember driving this when I was a kid...it was a baby Porsche..and could be one again.
If you are serious about this one please send me a pm or an email at psdturbodiesel@ hotmail.com and I will shoot some pics for you. I have a car trailer and for the price of fuel we can deliver it to within 75 miles of Grass Valley...
